The problems facing refugees are massive and complex. Their needs cannot be solved through the efforts of any single entity.
UNHCR carries out its mandate for the protection of refugees and finding durable solutions for their problems in close collaboration with a wide range of partners including governments, United Nations agencies, international and regional organizations, national and international Non-Governmental Organizations, donors, the private sector, educational and research institutions. In its effort to effectively carry out its mandate in the African continent and in addition to its country level partnerships, UNHCRs continental and regional partners include the African Union, Regional Economic Communities and other African and regional institutions. These partnerships help raise awareness about the plight of refugees, Internally Displaced Persons and other forcibly displaced populations, preserve the institution of asylum for refugees enshrined in international conventions and covenants and increase the effectiveness of operational interventions in the field by garnering broad international support and resources.
