UNHCR’s 2008 and 2009 programme in Eritrea aims to assist some 4,000 Somali
and Sudanese refugees in camps as well as urban asylum-seekers and refugees.
The Office will monitor protection and application of refugee status
determination procedures while searching for durable solutions.
UNHCR will maintain the increased level of
support for education and sanitation and preventive measures against sexual and
gender-based violence. UNHCR will pursue repatriation or resettlement as the
main durable solutions for camp based and urban refugees. It will provide
advice and technical assistance for the Government to help build its
refugee-management capacity and identify people with specific needs by
analysing registration and profiling data.
