UNHCR’s 2008 and 2009 programme in Egypt aims to continue registration and
RSD work. This will be done by increasing its capacity and reducing the waiting
period for registration, improve its database and identify cases with specific
needs.
New and more secure documentation will be
issued to all asylum-seekers and refugees. UNHCR will increase access to public
health services and education for refugees and support two public hospitals.
The office will work closely with the Ministry
of Education to enhance the capacity of public schools and four formal
community-based schools providing education for more than 6,000 refugee
children will benefit from UNHCR assistance.
The office will expand its referral and support
networks by providing assistance to eight community centres in 2008 and ten in
2009. UNHCR will strengthen operational partnerships and train diverse groups
on refugee issues and provide legal assistance for refugees in detention with
the help of its legal partners.
