UNHCR’s 2008 and 2009 programme in Togo aims to facilitate the reintegration of an estimated 7,500 refugees from Ghana and Benin, seeking the support of other UN agencies, the European Union and the Togolese High Commissioner for Repatriation and Humanitarian Action. If the situation in the country improves after the September general elections, UNHCR will assist some 4,500 refugees to return home from Benin.
